Rumour investigation - a new Samsung Odyssey OLED G8 ver 2 launching soon?
I have owned this monitor for a few weeks now and can I just say the speakers are a stand out feature of this monitor.
any new infos about the pg27aqdp 480hz model?
Nothing firm but I’m expecting more info this month so stay tuned
Need the g80sd one too
Display Ninja made a review on this monitor and on the current firmware that the monitor ships out with which is like .010 there are issues with adaptive sync. I am patiently waiting for .018 since it will address those issues and other issues like latency issues. Hopefully they release it soon.
Yes we had the newest firmware for our testing. It should be released pretty soon I believe. I’ll follow up with MSI to check
update, MSI tell us it should be released mid-August :)
Please do guide for the Samsung OLED G8 G80SD 🙏
We will soon
Does it have internal speakers? How are you supposed to get sound from it? Connect it to a sound bar?
No internal speakers but it has eARC sound pass through to a Soundbar. Or you can use the headphone connection
@@tftcentral it has a headphone jack?
@octoman511 ah sorry no this one doesn’t. Which is rare!
Thank you for the great video - very informative. I'm still having an issue with random DIMMING that drives me crazy.
Have you isolated when this occurs? You could perhaps pick yourself up a service remote and disable TPC, it could be that tftcentral.co.uk/articles/oled-dimming-confusion-apl-abl-asbl-tpc-and-gsr-explained
@@tftcentral THank you - I'll give this a try.
Hey buddy. What about "image enhanced" in the professional tab, what setting should we use? Thanks
I’d recommend leaving it on the default. IIRC that just artificially increases the sharpness
@@tftcentralNice. And HDMI 2.1 mod: Console or PC? What do you recommend?
@ArthurConradi depends on what you’re connecting 😀
@tftcentral My monitor is connected to my laptop. So the PC option is better, right? 😅 Also, I turned Adaptive-Sync option on...
@ArthurConradi yes
It’s good in many aspects, but lacks response time and frame rate, which is very crucial
How do i turn off the logo light on the chin i cant find the setting
Can’t remember if it’s in the newest firmware or not. Have you got that installed?
@tftcentral no I just got it but I'll try it first thing in the morning
for the past 2 years i am using a 42inch c2 oled lg tv 120hz, should i get this or should i mind my business, tbh i have nothing to complain about it?
If you’ve got no issues with your current screen it feels like a potentially unnecessary splurge. But that is more fun 🤩
Hey the brightness option is greyed out , it only enabled when i disable *DSC* but then i cant put monitor on 360 hz it maxes out to 240 when its disabled but brightness and other options are then enabled.. wtf is this..
I expect you’ve got HDR enabled all the time in windows have you?
@@tftcentral Yes that did the trick. So if i want to watch HDR movie do i have to enable & disable it everytime ?
Ideally yes. Google for the windows keyboard shortcut, that makes it quick and easy!
@@tftcentral Alrighty , thanks allot :)
with these settings the colors are wrong .. its abit warm , whites are not whites anymore
Yeah, this guide no longer works with the newest firmware.
@@tarix7628 I did pre installing the firmware and after I think its a preference by them so i just went like this 79 brightness Turned off uniform brightness 65 contrast Red100 Green98 Blue92 Looks good to me
The settings at 480Hz are very limited, but I bought the monitor for 480Hz. Could you cover settings for 480Hz? What I really want is a way to disable VRR at 480Hz, but the setting is grayed in 480Hz mode.
I’ve not checked but I expect it’s greyed out as off rather than on isn’t it? If it’s forced on in the menu, just disable it from your graphics card menu on that side 😀
@@tftcentral It's forced on at all times in 480 Hz (greyed out as choice). Disabling it in Nvidia control panel, the monitor still reports it's operating in VRR mode. In 240 Hz, the monitor doesn't report VRR when it's turned off in Nv control panel. There's no flicker at 480 Hz with VRR turned on in Nv control panel. At 240 Hz, it flickers in VRR just like my 240 Hz 1440p LG oled. I don't think the VRR feature works at all at 480 Hz, but the monitor falsely reports it as on.
@jcnikoley yeah that seems the likeliest scenario if it’s reporting it on when you’ve disabled it from NVCP. Sounds like you wanted it off anyway, so that’s all good 👍
Would you say the Samsung Neo G9 49inch is still a good monitor for gaming and productivity in 2024? I think it came out in 2021…but it’s mini LED which should work well for work from home people.
Yeah still a very good monitor. Not really been much newer in that Mini LED space as all the investment has been in oled really.
@@tftcentral it’s just extremely tough to find something non-OLED for someone who works from home and games. Do you guys have a recommendations page for productivity and gaming monitors?
@Junga1234 only for gaming monitors by size, but you might find something in there that’s suitable tftcentral.co.uk/recommendations/tftcentral-recommendations-list-gaming-monitors
I found the new approach comparing the two HDR modes by looking at luminance accuracy at different APL extremely useful, giving deep insight for selecting between these two HDR modes. Thanks a lot for your hard work, Simon, and great job!
Thank you for the feedback and I’m really glad that new testing and data was useful 😀
The display of this monitor is awful. They need to fix their firmware or move toward a new OLED technology. Compared to QD-OLED black shadow detail is crushed badly. Was using my iPhone 13 Pro Max/Galaxy Tab S8+ displays to compare detail while using the Black Equalizer but couldn’t match the detail of those OLED displays. Returned this monitor and bought a AW3225QF and couldn’t be happier.
They released update firmware where it did fix the crushing of Blacks. Dont have the monitor myself but seen a couple of reviewers mention this
@@uncannygambit The first thing I did was install that firmware. It was awful with it, I can’t imagine how bad it was without that firmware.
Did you test VRR flickering on this monitor?
All OLED's have VRR flicker sadly including this one. Refer to Rtings review.
Thanks just got this monitor few days ago
Why disable HDR in WIndows when not using it? I've set my C2 and this monitor for HDR always on. Looks great.
tftcentral.co.uk/articles/heres-why-you-should-only-enable-hdr-mode-on-your-pc-when-you-are-viewing-hdr-content
@@tftcentral Eh on OLED it looks identical to srgb mode. After tuning it with the slider in windows I can't tell the difference between srgb and HDR with sdr content. Feels like that article was written for lcd panels.
@BeHempy if you want to run it with HDR on all the time, that’s fine. I wouldn’t. You’re right that it can be less of an issue on OLED though, but not every screen behaves as nicely as the C2.
@@tftcentral Cool thanks for the responses.
Any news on the 45” 5120 by 2160 monitor?
No, not yet I’m afraid
Hey guys begging for a Samsung G80SD best settings video!
Hoping to review that screen soon so watch this space 😀
So thankful for this! I thought you guys were snubbing this monitor since it has been out for a while and I haven't seen you review it. Thank you so much for all your hard work for this community🙌
It was released quite a long way in advance in the Us but we had to wait a while to get our hands on one in the UK. Glad you enjoyed it 😀
my brightness settings near 90 is this dangerous for my screen(sdr mode)? Thank you.
Well not dangerous, no. But it might increase your risk of image retention. Just be careful with static uses, use the image OLED care options provided. And you’ve got a warranty cover too so you should be fine
@@tftcentral i understand thank you for the information sir.
I've had this monitor for months and really needed this 😅Thank you!
Thanks. Appreciate these videos. My own recommendation: a small application called novideo_srgb (for Nvidia GPUs) works absolute wonders for this monitor if you feel the wide gamut is not for you. The Gamer1 mode, by simply enabling the clamp, looks very accurate and true sRGB with pretty much out of the box settings with this small application. I guess the monitor's internal sRGB mode works as well, but it's very limited in its settings - and it still manages to look a bit off, and you lose DAS mode, which enables the lowest input lag.
My monitor hdr is clipping at 603 nits. Why?
You mean as reported by Windows HDR calibration tool? That will be a bug with the way it's reporting info sent from the monitor to the tool, but actual luminance will be different to what that figure shows on the screen - i mean it shows that for 100% full white window too i expect, which isn't realistic on an OLED. Just make sure you've set to 'high' peak brightness and you should be achieving up to 1300 nits peak for small APL %
@@tftcentral No, it's reporting 600 nits in windows and in the NVIDIA app. And doing calibrations both using windows and in games they clip at 600. you must disable dsc apparently and change some settings in cru to make it clip at 1300 nits. there are posts online about it. but I want to play at 240hz not 120...
Best way to do it then would be to just skip the Windows HDR calibration process. although even if you follow it, it won't really be clipping you at 600 nits....it won't impact the actual peak luminance being output by the screen, I've tried in the past to deliberately lower it using that tool and then re-measuring the luminance with a device and it doesn't impact it). It's just a bug with the figure being reported by the monitor to the app, quite a few of these new screens have the same issue.
I also had that problem. One of the many flaws the LG has. Returned it. Got the PG32UCDP, works much better out of the box.
@Neekzu we’ve got a review of that model and best settings guide coming very soon 😀
This monitor is not really appealing for the 1400€ it asks for :/
Best settings are to return it and wait for a better revision or get a C series.
why is that?
@@tftcentral price is too high for what's provided. A mediocre HDR display with worse brightness than the newer revised 27" 1440p model. The dual mode is a gimmick. I was thoroughly disappointed. In fact, the matte coating was one of the only things that impressed me, it's definitely one of the best I've seen. The C series is a larger display for cheaper most of the time. Sure, it's not 240hz, but it's good enough and has much better HDR implementation.
@@DrakonR Cope.
@@BeHempy great rebuttal, I bet it took a whole 2 seconds to rub two brain cells together for that one. 👍
@@DrakonR Cope harder.
What if all these settings for me greyed out?
I expect it’s because you’ve got HDR enabled all the time in windows which you don’t want
Just picked this monitor up in the Uk for £700. However I have a small issue with it I have hooked up the supplied HDMI cable with it put I can only select a refresh rate of 100hz not 175hz in windows, I should I try a better cable?
What graphics card do you have? Quite probable you’ve only got HDMI 2.0 which won’t support any higher.
RTX 4070ti super, I would have thought the monitor would ship with a 2.1 cable.
@timdance426 yeah it does, and your card should be fine. Should work. Check in NVIDIA control panel in case you’re in the tv section instead of pc section. Also maybe try changing via windows display settings instead
When running Windows HDR calibration tool, which color saturation setting do you personally recommend? Leaving it at 0 or increasing it to a specific number for best results
For accuracy I’d leave that alone but you can tweak it if you feel it helps
@@tftcentral I prefer it at 0. Someone made a video and they recommended 70. I know at the end of the day it’s all a matter of preference, I just think that the oversaturated color look isn’t for me. I use it mainly for web browsing and gaming.
Your menu looks a lot different than mine, it puts a menu on the bottom of the screen. Maybe I have a newer firmware version. Are there any settings for Windows or Nvidia control panel that make the display look better for gaming?
4K 240 / 1080p 480hz is great if glossy
Is it worth getting any of these monitors with the 1st Gen Pixel Layout? I keep seeing it listed as a negative. I purchased thee LG39 inch OLED and I can't tell if the lower PPI is causing the text fringing and minor blur or if it is the 1st Gen Pixel Layout. Still have a little bit before deciding if I want to return it.
It’s probably a combination of both the unusual pixel layout and the low pixel density. Note that the 39” models are using WOLED panels as opposed to QDOLED and overall I think those show more fringing and text clarity problems, even where the screen size is the same. So you’d see some improvements moving to a smaller screen with higher density, and also to a QDOLED panel I think
@@tftcentral I am going to be returning the LG39 inch today. I really enjoyed the product height and curve and will miss it. Do you think the MSI MPG 341CQPX is a good purchase to fill the gap? I will be using it for work and gaming. I think I would get at least 10-12 extra PPI going to a 34 inch 1440 OLED.
@Junga1234 I think it’s a really good 34” oled yes. I think you’ll find text better than the Lg you’re returning
@@tftcentral it’s a tough decision because I work from home 8 hours a day and I will have to battle OLED burn in. I’m also interested in the AW3225QF but not sure my 4080 can perform that well.
How does the matte coating on WOLED compare to the EIZO CS/CG models? I currently still have a EIZO CX240 from 2012 and the matte coating is very very fine and doesn't look crystalized.
It’s slightly more grainy than modern IPS coating. Although it’s only slight
@@tftcentral I guess i'll have to just try and see, right now the Asus PG27AQDM seems to be something to replace my CX240 with. I'm just worried about lifetime, i highly doubt OLED will last 12 years like my current monitor. Then again i'm a low brightness user due to sensitive eyes. I just my CX240 at only 50 CD/m².
When i set the HDR to 'True Black 400' using the windows hdr calibration tools the peak brightness seems right at about 750, is setting it at 750 the right thing to do or should i move it to 400/450?
Just use the slider as guided and ignore the number it lists. It’s often wrong or misaligned
@@tftcentral Thanks for the fast answer! What about in games? for example in RDR2 where i have to manually set the peak brightness
@lemasespandon again just follow the slider /guidance and ignore the number reported 😀
I got the MAG version of this monitor. I used the same settings, since I assume it is the same panel. However, it seems very warm. I also noticed under the Gaming tab, that I can't turn off game mode. Any suggestions?
I have issues with this monitor with games like wow or ffxiv that has a static UI in the borders.. Any way to display the icons evenly at maximum intensity?
man I got this monitor like 2 days ago. Went from an AOC 1080p60 monitor to this beast of a screen, also first OLED Ive ever owned (besides my phone with AMOLED screen ofc). so far Im still not sure which setting to use. SDR looks better than HDR in any setting (HDR 10 or Dolby Atmos in all available settings). I didnt change anything yet myself besides the premade settings and brightness (it is really very bright, I dont understand anyone who says its not bright enough. It is way brighter than my 1080p60 IPS monitor was, I had that one on 90 to 100 all the time and I turned down my OLED to 60 yesterday. Im not in a completely dark room by any means during daytime. I dont have any sunlight shining on it tho. Atm I settled with "Racing Mode" when waching YT videos and stuff. Today, when I play the new POE league, Im not sure what I use. Yesterday when I quickly tested it, I used the "RTS/RPG mode", it looked the best, many of the other ones were too dark. I hope this video lets me increase the visual experience even further. It already looks amazing. I have to adjust my eyes and brain to a 4k screen of this size tho. Everything looks massively different.s

I use this monitor for my ps5 and Series X, the hdr is fantastic, i used the hdr calibration within each console to take advantage of 1,000 nits Not to mention both consoles can view anything in HDR, even if it doesn't support it.
Hello everyone, I am interested in making a purchase of the 491cqp and this would be mounted to my racing simulator. I have noticed that the vesa mount on the back is set into the monitor and also a fin runs down the back of the monitor above where the stand or mount fits in place. Could you tell me the size of the spacer needed in mm to clear the fin so I could fix the monitor to a flat plate please?
Not sure on that I’m afraid. You may need to contact MSI to ask, or perhaps see if the user manual documentation includes any info that helps
@@tftcentral they came back fast and confirmed stand offs are included in the box :)
It is now £1099 in the UK, is this price difference now worth it from the £1350 that the ASUS is asking for?
I’d say so yes! Decent saving there for a great screen
@@tftcentral Thanks! Ordered it right now and can’t wait to try it out coming from just cheap LCD’s. I’ll also adjust the settings to your best settings video on it too.
